EPHRAIM — Scouts from BSA Troop 900 of Ephraim took first place in the Klondike Derby at the  BSA’s Arapeen District’s Klondike Derby on Feb 18 with a time of 13.5 minutes.

The event, this year in Fairview Canyon, required participants to start a fire, cook a pancake, flip it in the air above a 15-foot mark and then eat it.

Troop 900’s pancake fell on the ground, but the scouts still had to eat it, Scoutmaster Lawrence Durtschi said.

There were also multiple knot-tying stations, a first-aid station and snow-snake running.    The troop also took first place in the sled race.

“They worked hard and worked together as a team.  I am really proud of them,” Durtschi said.

Being a new addition to local Boy Scouts, the troop is raising funds for equipment and a trailer, and to so is having an auction on Wednesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. at the LDS church at 765 S. 100 E. in Ephraim.

The donation of any items or services that could be auctioned off would be appreciated by the troop. There is a donation form at the troop’s website, www.troop900.org, and the troop also has a GoFundMe account: www.gofundme.com/troop900.
